During the summer of 2016 I had the opportunity to do a fair amount of plein aire painting in Paris. This is one of the classic corner cafe/restaurants in Paris, located on the Champs Elysées. I was actually able to paint this standing in the middle of the famous thoroughfare because the city had just started this promotion where they shut down the Champs Elysées for the first Sunday of the month in the summer. There was a French policeman nearby who kept strolling over to check on my progress. We chatted a bit here and there and when I finished he came back and said, “I thought you might just be another of those people that go around and paint, but you are a true ‘artiste!'”
